Suboxone works by combining two active ingredients: buprenorphine and naloxone. Buprenorphine is a partial opioid agonist, which means it activates the same brain receptors as opioids but to a lesser degree, reducing cravings and withdrawal symptoms. Naloxone, on the other hand, blocks the effects of opioids, preventing abuse and overdose. Together, these ingredients help to manage addiction and support recovery.
FDA-approved medications like Suboxone make it easier to focus on overcoming the underlying causes of addiction without the distractions of cravings or withdrawal symptoms, and therapy provides needed emotional support.
Withdrawing from drugs or alcohol is difficult, so the first step we take with each patient is evaluating their medical history and symptoms. Depending on how they’re feeling and the level of cravings they’re experiencing, we’ll develop a personalized treatment plan.
During the treatment process, our patients will continue to receive Suboxone according to our clinician’s recommendation. In addition, the patient has the opportunity to enroll in both group therapy and one-on-one counseling, which can be highly effective in helping them address the underlying issues surrounding their addiction.
Our clinicians constantly assess every individual’s progress during recovery. When the time is right, we provide support to help our patients transition off of Suboxone. Our goal is to help our patients live a life of lasting recovery.
